Reclaim your body and motor skills!
Patients can be discharged from intensive care with varying degrees of motor sequelae. Neuromyopathy in intensive care is common and reversible with early rehabilitation. Thanks to the generous support of CHUV (Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois), we are able to provide you with simple daily exercises to help you regain your intensive care autonomy.
These exercises are divided into three main stages, to be carried out according to your objectives and muscle strength:
Preparatory exercises

Starting position: you're in bedMove your toes back and forth. Do as much as you like.

Starting position: you're in bedCrush the mattress with the back of your knee to tighten it.Hold the contraction for 6 seconds.
Functional exercises

Starting position: you are in bedBring one knee after the other towards you, sliding the heel onto the mattress.Perform 8-10x on each side.

Starting position: you are in bedTurn to one side, then the other.Perform 5-8x on each side.

Starting position: you are in bedKnees bent, come and look at your belly by lifting your shoulders.Hold the position for 6 seconds.

Starting position: you are in bedBend one knee and touch it with the opposite hand.Hold the position for 6 seconds.Repeat on the other side.

Starting position: you are in bedKnees bent, swing slowly to each side.Can be done as often as you like.

Starting position: lying on your sideTake your legs out of bed and push on both arms to sit up.Perform 5-8x on each side.

Starting position: you are sitting on a chair, arms on the armrestsPush on the arms to raise the pelvis.Perform 8-10x.

Starting position: standing, in front of a chairPerform mini-squats while holding onto a chair/barrier.

Starting position: sitting on the edge of the bed, with a chair in front of youSupporting yourself on the chair, initiate the movement to stand up by lifting your pelvis, then sit back down.Perform 5-10x.

Starting position: standing with support on a chairLift one leg after the other in unipodal balance.Hold position for 6-10 seconds.
You can increase or decrease the number of repetitions to achieve a feeling of muscular fatigue or endurance.
